Fixed Pay

Meaning & Definition

Fixed Pay is the salary that is guaranteed to be paid regularly, every month, regardless of employee performance or the company’s financials. These payments consist of the base salary and additional fixed allowances. Fixed income allows employees to be assured of supporting their family members with a fixed amount and ultimately provides the structure and foundation of the overall business compensation package in a majority of organizations.

Why Fixed Pay Matters?

  • Employees receive a stable source of income with a steady paycheck.
  • The salary acts as the foundation for employee pay systems in HR and payroll.
  • Having a consistent, fixed payment allows staff to better plan their finances.
  • When the pay amount does not change each month, there are fewer layers needed for payroll.
  • Salaries also provide a method for compliance regarding the calculation of salary, materials, and deductions for both tax and employee benefits.

Statutory & Policy Alignment

The payment of wages is subject to the general wage and labour legislation in India, as fixed remuneration is an important aspect of an employment arrangement, and employers are required to ensure compliance with the requirements of these laws regarding timely payment and minimum levels of remuneration as required by the Payment of Wages Act, 1936 and the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
