Quality Management
Meaning & Definition
Quality Management is the use of quality management tools and techniques. It is an important organization-wide method to control quality throughout a project or an organization’s entire operation. In HR, quality management is also a method to help employees perform their work better, better control processes, improve training, improve organizational accountability, and decrease errors.
Importance of Quality Management
- Assists in maintaining a uniform quality of products, services, and processes.
- Standardizes employee performance based on measurable standards.
- Identifies and highlights gaps and inefficiencies.
- Trustworthiness assures customers of consistent and reliable quality products and services.
- Reduces errors, waste, and unnecessary operational costs.
- Establishes guidelines and roles for accountability.
Legal Compliance / Applicable Rules & Policies
Industry, activities, contractual, and legal requirements all affect the quality management requirements. The organization should have the necessary processes, quality records, training, controls, and corrective actions in place where necessary.
ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management, but it is usually voluntary unless mandated by contract, regulator, customer, or industry. Employment, workplace safety, consumer protection, and product and industry regulations apply in addition to ISO 9001.
