Job Posting
Meaning & Definition
A job posting is nothing but an advertisement, either published publicly or internally by the organization. These include basic information related to the job opening, like job designation, duties, qualifications, salary offered, etc. They can be posted in online portals like Naukri, LinkedIn, Indeed, on a corporate website, or even internally among the staff of the organization. A job posting is one of the very first steps in the recruitment process.
Importance of Job Posting

- Establishes clear expectations right from the outset.
- Facilitates both internal promotion and external recruiting.
- Accelerates the recruiting process by connecting to candidates sooner.

Applicable Rules & Regulations
There are no specific statutory requirements regarding the posting of job advertisements. But:
- Under the Employment Exchange (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act, 1959, some of the establishments have an obligation to notify vacancies to the Government Employment Exchange prior to advertising such vacancies outside.
- Under the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976, job postings should not include pay scales for men and women differently for the same post.
