Business As Usual (B.A.U.)
Meaning & Definition
Business As Usual (BAU) are the regular day-to-day operations and activities of a company that maintain consistency in all aspects of the company’s operation. From an HR viewpoint, the BAU will consist of day-to-day HR functions, such as managing employee attendance, processing payroll, managing employee leave, compliance reporting, and providing support to employees.
Important features includes
- Facilitates the continuity of all daily HR operations and payroll.
- Helps create and maintain a consistent employee experience and service delivery model.
- Establishes a baseline for measuring the success of change initiatives within the HR function and across HR-related projects.
- Reduces risk in daily operations by providing a standardised approach for achieving results.
- Provides a continuous basis of evidence for complying with HR checklist based on regular and consistent work through HR periods.
Legal Compliance / Policy / Regulation
- Business-as-usual (BAU) HR processes should be carried out in accordance with Indian labour regulations.
- Payroll processing for BAU must adhere to all rules governing the Provident Fund, Employee State Insurance Scheme, Professional Tax and Income Tax.
- Working hours, employee attendance, and leave of absence must be defined by the relevant Shops and Establishments Act.
- All HR policies created and used in BAU must be documented and consistently applied throughout the organisation.
- Employees’ statutory filings and independent audits are performed to identify any compliance gaps associated with BAU.
