Continuous Feedback

Meaning & Definition

The concept of continuous feedback involves managers and colleagues providing help, guidance, and recognition continually through the course of an employee’s performance, behaviour, and progress. The goal of continuous feedback is to provide employees with immediate assistance, so that they can learn more quickly while remaining in line with what has been expected of them, and to give them ways to improve their performance continuously.

Importance of Continuous Feedback

  • Provides promptly on-going guidance to enhance performance through direct feedback, and to correct and adjust the course of performance when necessary.
  • Additional engagement and motivation for employees through timely feedback and encouragement.
  • Provides a culture of open communication and trust for employees.
  • Facilitates the development and learning of skills quickly.
  • Minimizes dependence on infrequent annual appraisal processes.

Governance & Policy Alignment

Internal performance management policies and feedback management policies drive the feedback communication process.

Internal performance management and feedback provide a framework for organisations to communicate feedback to employees through their HRMS systems, check-ins and one-to-one meetings, and through clear guidelines to ensure the feedback provided is fair, respectful and consistent.
