Candidate Engagement

Meaning & Definition

Candidate engagement contains the continuous interaction and communication between a company and applicants throughout the recruitment journey from the application stage until the successful onboarding of new employees. Successful candidate engagement means providing applicants with regular updates, information in a straightforward manner, a constructive approach, and making the application process and subsequent onboarding enjoyable for both the applicant and employer.

Important features of Candidate Engagement

  • Enhances speed and convenience for candidates.
  • Decreases turnover due to delayed hiring and rejection of offers.
  • Increases the suitability of the employer as a place to work for potential talent.
  • Increases the likelihood that quality talent will be hired.
  • Creates a path for businesses to develop long-term relationships with candidates for future roles.

Governance & Policy Alignment

There isn’t a statutory requirement that is representative of the term.

Participating candidates must participate consistently with:

  • Equal employment opportunity and fair hiring practices.
  • The recruitment communications policy and data privacy policy.
  • The employer brand and candidate experience model.

Developing trust and credibility is done through continued disclosure of clear communication.
